Hidilyn Diaz nabs silver, first Philippine Olympic medal in 20 years



Hidilyn Diaz, a native of Zamboanga City, is the 1st Filipino to medal in weightlifting, and the 1st non-boxer to medal from the Philippines since 1936, Imagine that. This is one of the best news I have heard for the Philippines.

Hidilyn Diaz made history for our country the Philippines, she ended the Philippines's 20-year Olympic medal drought by securing an olympic silver medal in the women's 53-kg weightlifting division of the 2016 Summer Games on Sunday, August 7 in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.

Diaz who sis a native of Zamboanga City, becomes the 1st ever female athlete to win an Olympic medal for the county Philippines. You may watch her video here.

She was also the 1st Filipino to medal in weightlifting, and the 1st non-boxer to medal from the Philippines since 1936.
